February 15th – Natural Birth – Making It More Calm & Relaxed
Laura Duffy – Natural Childbirth Educator, HypnoBirthing® Practitioner, Labor & Birth and Postpartum Doula
We discussed natural birth and that it is the most natural thing in the universe. All day, every day, all around the world – this birth thing is happening. We touched on the power of the mind and how what your mind perceives directly effects how your body reacts – especially in birthing.
Mom needs to educate herself and she needs to find a birthing place where she feels safe, and confident that her wishes will be listened to. She needs physical & emotional support and she needs to trust in her body. Then, she needs to breathe…
Discussing natural birth and birthing options is my passion so if you have any questions, definitely contact me anytime!
January 18th – The Role of B Vitamins in Fertility, Detoxification, Mental Health and Endocrine Balance
Dr. Corrie Marinaro, ND – New England Naturopathic Health
Dr. Corrie’s talk was wonderfully informational and interactive, as is her way! She discussed different B Vitamins, their benefits, and ways you can get them into your system more easily, as well as making sure they are absorbable by your body – the difference between folic acid and folate is a new and very hot topic.
A lack of B Vitamins, and lack of the proper absorption of them can cause:
- Birth defects
- Skin issues
- Histamine –processing disorders such as allergies, asthma & anaphylaxis
- Poor immune function
A large percentage of our population unknowingly have a gene which makes them unable to process certain sources of B Vitamins. It is so important to do your research and work with you care provider to be sure that you are getting the correct vitamins and source of vitamins so your body can process them effectively.
Click here to download the handout Dr. Corrie had at the Tea. It is very scientific(Dr. Corrie loves to ‘geek out’), in depth, and will answer many questions you may have. If you find you have more questions, which we always do, here is Dr. Corrie’s info:
Be sure to check out the B Vitamin Happy Hour they are offering at New England Naturopathic Health on Tuesdays & Thursdays as well! ‘Tis the season!
SPECIAL EVENT – SUNDAY DECEMBER 10TH – 10AM – RAILROAD SQUARE CINEMA IN WATERVILLE
Join us for the FREE viewing of this amazingly educational & family friendly movie –
What’s On Your Plate?
This incredible documentary is about kids and food politics, as spoken through the eyes of two eleven year old girls – Sadie & Safiyah.
“The girls address questions regarding the origin of the food they eat, how it’s cultivated, how many miles it travels from the harvest to their plate, how it’s prepared, who prepares it, and what is done afterwards with the packaging and leftovers. They visit the usual supermarkets, fast food chains, and school lunchrooms. But they also check into innovative sustainable food system practices by going to farms, greenmarkets, and community supported agriculture programs.”
This is such an important film for the entire family as well as our community!
We will have a panel of local guest speakers for a little Q&A after the movie!
It will be a morning full of fun & education for all! Join us!

November 17th – Dr. Elyse Corbett
This month we discussed Postpartum Experiences. This is a very deep and sometimes dark conversation, and we are working towards putting much more focus on this sadly overlooked topic. 80% of moms go through some form of postpartum depression ranging from baby blues to more serious levels. Dr. Elyse Corbett has been our speaker for the last two years but due to a family emergency she was unable to attend this month. Luckily, we had two postpartum doulas, Danielle Dickey and myself, who were able to take the reigns. We discussed different types of postpartum depression, what to look for and how to help. This includes not only mom, but also partner and other family members. There were handouts, stories and lists galore. We will post some video upon completion and until then, here is a handout that Elyse gives at every talk, and I now give to every expectant couple I work with. Elyse fully intends on joining us again in 2017!
